The Sustainable Consumerism Intern shall report directly to the Project Coordinator Coordinateur/trice de projet of Really Local Harvest Cooperative and is responsible for :
The Sustainable Consumerism Intern will assess, research, and help us adopt and implement sustainable practices for our facilities and members. Your job would help us show New Brunswick what exemplary sustainable consumerism can look like!
This position will include analysis of the current impacts and research, including direct communications with waste management facilities, product end users and the food serving establishments who make purchasing decisions. This will facilitate the development of policy and roll out of programming of a bulk order process to reduce non-biodegradable food packaging, to promote mass policy adoption throughout NB.
Duties :
Survey and assess resources and consumer needs at Farmer’s Markets and local retailers and barriers to adopting sustainable packaging.
Co-ordinating and promoting the adoption of compostable/zero-waste containers for our vendors and partners
Help develop and implement projects to reduce waste and divert waste from landfills at Dieppe Market, Shediac Market, our events, for our clients etc
Help implement, assess and market our new “3 stream” procedures
Work with members, farmers and vendors to assess and reduce waste while supporting local agriculture.
Develop benchmarks and goals for sustainable consumerism for the organization.
Work with facilities management to develop and implement some energy efficiency and sustainable practices on site as educational demonstrations to the public and to help fulfill our mission.
