Buying locally contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas
In Canada, produce travel, on average, 2500 to 4000 km before getting to our tables. It is estimated that almost one-third of the trucks on our roads are transporting food. All our farmers are located within 100 km of your home which reduces considerably the greenhouse gases responsible for climate change. Buying local products also means less packaging. By buying locally, you are doing something concrete for the environment.
For the economy of our communities and the strength of our rural environment
When you buy food at the Farmers’ Market or directly from farm stands, you eliminate the middleman and maximize the farmer’s monetary benefits. By buying locally, you are contributing to the development of farming enterprises and communities.
By preserving family farms and agricultural land we also preserve the agricultural knowledge and know-how necessary to ensure food security. Giving preference to our small farms also means protecting our rural landscape.
Buying locally is thus an efficient way to contribute to sustainable development.
